About Alicia

Alicia Smith is running for re-election to the Laramie County School District #1 Board of Trustees.  A long-time Cheyenne resident, Alicia graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Wyoming, where she met her husband of 25 years. They returned in Cheyenne in 2002 and have made their home and raised their family here since.

The Smiths are proud parents of five children - three who graduated from LCSD1 and have moved onto higher education and careers, and two who are still enrolled in LCSD1 schools. Alicia believes whole-heartedly that the Smith kids have received incredible educations and opportunities in LCSD1, and  she is grateful they've had amazing teachers, coaches, and school administrators who have taught and encouraged them along the way.

Alicia has long been involved in our community, volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout pack leader, Boy Scout parent volunteer, member of LCSD1 Parent's Advisory Council, president of the Cheyenne All-City Children's Choir Board, founding officer and member of the Frontier FFA Parents Group, and Children's Pastor at the Smiths' local church.

One of the volunteer commitments she is most honored to hold is being a member of the Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees since 2020.  As a Trustee, she has been Assistant Clerk and Clerk, and also has enjoyed participating on a number of committees within the district - the Calendar Committee, the Boundary Waiver Committee, the Policy Advisory Committee, the Cheyenne Schools Foundation Board, and as member and Chair of the Cheyenne Community Recreation District Board.

Alicia is a Realtor with #1 Properties in Cheyenne.  Prior to becoming involved in real estate, she spent about 25 years working for the University of Wyoming as both a full-time and contract employee.

She earned a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Wyoming in 2000 and a bachelor's in psychology in 1995.

My Story

I love Cheyenne, and I love Wyoming.  I can't imagine being anywhere else.

The daughter of an Air Force missilleer, my family moved around every 2-4 years while I was growing up.  We moved to Cheyenne in 1988 when my Dad was stationed at FE Warren AFB, just before my sophomore year in high school began.  My Dad loved his time at the base overseeing missile maintanence, and my Mom was hired as a special ed teacher at Carey Junior High School.  I graduated from Central in 1991 and later from UW in 1995.  By that time, my heart had found it's home in Wyoming and I knew this is where I wanted to live and raise my family.

I began working for the Univeristy of Wyoming right after graduating in 1995, first in the public relations office as a publications editor. then as a special projects coordinator in the Vice President of Student Affairs' office.  I later moved to the UW Foundation, where I discovered a passion for event planning, donor relations, and managing special projects.

When my husband and I began our family and moved from Laramie to Cheyenne in 2002, the University allowed me to work on a contract basis.  I commuted back and forth for years, loving the work I was privileged to do while enjoying the flexibility to be home to raise my young family.  I eventually went back to work full-time for the UW Foundation again, but ended that employment in early 2020 to begin a real estate career in Cheyenne.

We have five children between the ages of 12 and 22.  One is now an elementary teacher, two are attending U.S. military academies (US Naval Academy and West Point), one is in high school, and our youngest is still in elementary school.  Over the years, we have always done what we felt was best for the kids' education.  That included homeschooling the older four for some of their elementary years and also enrolling them in Laramie County School District 1.  We've had kids in the Trailblazer program, kids on IEPs, kids in IB, and kids involved in nearly every sport and activity out there - football, wrestling, track, tennis, soccer, student government, National Honor Society, ROTC, marching and concert bands, choir, FFA, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, and church activities.

I've worked as a realtor since the beginning of 2020 and find it a high calling to work with individuals, couples, and families as they either look for the perfect place to call home or as they transition of owning one home and moving to something else.  It's great to be able to share my enthusiasm for our community with my clients!

It's been a privilege to serve as a Trustee for Laramie County School District 1 since 2020. I am always aware of the responsibility and trust that's been given me by the Cheyenne community, and I don't take that lightly. In my mind, there is not a public service calling greater than providing excellent educational opportunities for our children, while ensuring thier hearts and minds are protected from agendas and ideologies that have no place in public education.

I'd be honored to continue serving as a member of the LCSD1 Board of Trustees.  Your support means the world to me, and I promise to fight for the kids and families of our community.

Remember ... vote Alicia Smith for Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees!
